ANSWERS
PROPERTY SITE VISITS.
What, When & Why
Why We Visit
The purpose of our visit is to maintain property record card data for accurate property valuation. Property record card information is also frequently utilized by other agencies, such as mortgage companies, appraisers and real estate agents.
What We Do When We Visit
All of our work is performed on the outside. We will never ask to come inside. We measure the perimeter of the buildings on the property, take pictures of the buildings and do a sketch of them. Depending on the size and complexity of the structure(s) it can take anywhere from 10 min to an hour for us to complete our visit. With vacant land visits we usually walk the property noting the topography and other land features that may have an effect on the value of the property.
When Can You Expect A Visit
Annually our goal is to visit approximately 20% of the parcels in our Townships, with the goal of visiting each property at least once every 4-5 years. If your property has any new construction, has recently been sold or has had an ownership transfer of some type, or hasn't been visited in a while, chances are it may be visited soon!
We will also visit upon request of property owners. Please be advised that the State or County may also visit when they do their own studies or property record accuracy audits.
OWNERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO REQUEST THAT WE NOT VISIT THEIR PROPERTY, HOWEVER WE DO NEED EITHER
A LETTER OR AN EMAIL THAT STATES THE OWNER IS OPTING OUT OF BEING VISITED BY THE ASSESSING DEPARTMENT. WE WILL KEEP THIS LETTER ON FILE FOR LOCAL AND STATE AUDITS. IF YOU CHOOSE TO OPT OUT PLEASE SEND US AN EMAIL AT: townshipassessing@gmail.com
OR SEND A LETTER TO OPT OUT TO:
